Il Fondaco dei Tedeschi, Venezia, OMA
50 Books | 50 Covers 2016, AIGA + Design Observer
Published at the time of the new opening of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice after the renovation signed by Rem Koolhaas and Ippolito Pestellini / OMA, the book offers a comprehensive survey of the history of the building from the 1200s to the present, with all the preliminary materials from the presentations by OMA, as well as a complete photo gallery.
Keeping historical references of Venetian publishing and typography in mind, the book has been designed in two versions: a luxurious “cinquecentina” hardcover with gilt-edged pages, and a contemporary smaller edition suitable for bookshops. The design and typography have been optimized to make both editions with a single digital layout, ensuring readability and consistency along with industrial and economic feasibility.
The book design has been awarded in the competition “50 Books | 50 Covers 2016” organized by AIGA and Design Observer.
Pubblicato in occasione della riapertura a Venezia del Fondaco dei Tedeschi dopo la ristrutturazione progettata da Rem Koolhaas e Ippolito Pestellini / OMA, il volume traccia la storia dell’edificio dalla prima edificazione, nel 1200, al presente e include tutti gli elaborati preliminari di presentazione del progetto realizzati da OMA, per chiudersi con un’ampia galleria fotografica.
Tenendo a mente i riferimenti storici dell’editoria e della tipografia veneziana, il volume è stato disegnato in due edizioni: una ricca ‘cinquecentina’, cartonata con dorature, e una moderna edizione da libreria in formato ridotto. Il design e la tipografia sono stati ottimizzati per ricavare entrambe le edizioni da un unico layout digitale, garantendo leggibilità e coerenza con le due diverse destinazioni e preservando la sostenibilità industriale ed economica.
Il progetto del libro è stato premiato nel concorso “50 Books | 50 Covers 2016” organizzato da AIGA e Design Observer.
