“What sets the concept of Nomos apart – and this is a feature of many of Foster’s works – is the way it gives rise to a useful object whose form descends directly from the process of assembly of the parts that go into it. The succession of the grafts, joints and fastenings that determine its forms, once the static conception guiding the overall design has been identified, translates into a myriad of components. As the many sketches by Foster demonstrate, if taken one by one these components are of limited communicative value. Like the letters used to form words, or the words that are organized in sentences, they take on meaning only through their assembly.”

A modular typographic composition in honor of the thirty years of the Nomos modular system, the result of the encounter between Tecno and Norman Foster.

«Ciò che contraddistingue la concezione di Nomos, ed è una cifra di tante opere di Norman Foster, è di avere dato vita ad un oggetto d’uso la cui forma discende direttamente dal processo di assemblaggio delle parti che lo compongono. La successione degli innesti, delle giunzioni e degli avvitamenti che ne determina la forma, una volta individuata la concezione statica che guida l’intero progetto, si è tradotta in una miriade di componenti. Come i tanti schizzi di Foster dimostrano, se prese singolarmente queste componenti hanno una valenza comunicativa limitata. Come le lettere che si aggregano a formare una parola, o le parole che si ordinano in una frase, acquistano senso soltanto attraverso il loro montaggio.»
