Vatican Chapels (book)

The 16. Esposizione Internazionale di Architettura of the Venice Biennale included the participation of the Holy See for the first time. On the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, ten chapels were built, along with an introductory space. The architects involved were asked to reinterpret a single reference, the Skogskapellet built in 1920 by Erik Gunnar Asplund in the cemetery of Stockholm.

The catalogue is conceived on the model of the manual, and has gradually grown, step by step, through 372 pages designed over a span of 4 months, to document the design and construction phases. On the cover the typographic composition that marks the visual identity of the project: a dynamic sign that connects an earthly itinerary through the wood on the island of San Giorgio to a spiritual path between mankind and the immanent.
